The Film: Immediately following a North Korean coup d’état, the high ranking North Korean officer, Uhm Chul-woo (Jung Woo-sung), finds himself heavily wounded in South Korea. Meanwhile, the North has declared war with the South, and the United States and South Korea enter a state of martial law. Now, the head of foreign relations and securities official, Kwak Chul-woo (Kwak Do-won), believes that the North Korean officer has crucial information that may help stop an imminent war from breaking out. The two “Chul-woos” begin to work closely together but…
Interest: High Expectations: Medium
The director of 2013’s The Attorney, Yang Woo-suk, reunites stars Jung Woo-sung and Kwak Do-won after their incredible work together in last year’s Asura: The City of Madness. While the trailer gives off a similar vibe as this year’s comedic buddy-cop film Confidential Assignment with the North and South Korean officers pitted to work together despite their differences routine, Steel Rain looks to be much more of a straight action film. Initial reaction to the film is very positive in Korea and I can’t wait to check it out myself! Who else is in for this one?
